You'll then see the options available on your computer so you can use the correct microphone. Check the audio settings in Zoom: Similar to above, if you're not in a meeting you can open Zoom, open the settings and head to "audio". Here you'll have the option to set your preferences as well as test the microphone and speaker on your PC to see if it's working.

If your mic is too quiet, you can turn up the levels here. My Mac can't access the mic: Sometimes your Mac might say it can't access the microphone and ask you to restart. This might then ask for admin permission. Entering your details can then correct the mic fault without having to restart. Ensure your PC audio settings are correct: If you've not been able to fix the problem through Zoom itself, then check your settings or preferences on your computer. Above everything else, check they actually work to help isolate the problem.

Background noise is disrupting the call: If there's too much noise around you - people in the house, traffic noise, animals, aircraft, then consider using a noise cancelation app like Krisp. This can cut the background noise so you come across sounding clearer.

It can also cut background noise from others on the call, so you don't hear their noise either. Zoom has its own background noise filter too, which you can find in settings. Otherwise the only sound people will get is that coming through your mic. This option is in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen share options. There are echos or feedback on the audio: This usually happens when a mic detects audio coming from the speakers.

It might be that the microphone is too close to the speakers, it might be that someone is using a phone and computer or that multiple computers are too close together. Muting the mic can resolve the problem or identify which participant s are causing the problems. No one can see me: If you can't be seen - and can't see yourself - start by checking you've started video on the call. Press the button in the bottom left-hand corner to make sure you've joined video on the call.

Most calls start with video off. Check the camera you're using: Just as with audio, Zoom will let you choose which camera to use. Tap the arrow next to the video button and a list of available cameras will pop-up. Check you're not using a camera that's covered or on a closed docked laptop, for example. It's also here that you'd be able to find virtual cameras, if you wanted to turn yourself into a cat. Confirm the video settings in Zoom: If you've tried both the above with no success, open the settings in the Zoom app and examine the "video" options.

You'll be able to see a preview from your webcam and select the webcams available. If you can't see a webcam preview, you'll have to check your computer settings and check your webcam is properly installed.

My video is blocky and keeps freezing: Many quality issues in video are because of data. That might be because you don't have strong Wi-Fi, or there's someone else using bandwidth on your connection streaming in 4K or downloading large files, for example.

Try to limit other demanding services and ensure you have a good Wi-Fi signal, or a wired connection. Learn more Home Apps App news. Mansi Vijay , March 2, Share on:. Restart Your Device 2. I use my lap top for the meeting and I checked the sound setting and that was at 50 and it has always been adequate before. Your advice would be welcomed please.

Thanks very much for the link to the Zoom release note which documents the issue. Great to know that Zoom is aware of the problem and that some of their best people are working on it.

Please note that it is possible to work around the problem by launching Zoom in a browser rather than starting the Zoom app. And if someone instead wants to download and install an earlier version of Zoom, I agree with the comments below that it is better to download Zoom 5.

Thank you so much for mentioning that it works in the browser. At least I can still join the meeting while using my cell phone for something else! Great suggestion. Thank you for posting - my speaker detection Windows 10 has not been working since the update and thankfully was able to revert back to the prior version and all good now, hopefully they resolve in next iteration, but won't upgrade until then!

For "Failed To Detect Speaker" k indly uninstall your current Zoom App then download the bit version from the zoom. Let me know if you will still encounter the same issues with the app detecting your speaker.

Always stay healthy and safe! Thanks for the work-around Sg! Don't know why it didn't occur to me to try an older version. That got me going again. Glad to see I wasn't crazy. Hi Sg and mvalpreda , I'd be cautious about downloading older versions of the Zoom client from unverified sources like that.

They can easily add spyware or malware into the installer, which can cause other issues. Here is a download link to the official Zoom 5. Dear Bort, I am facing exact same problem recently. I tried to reinstall the old version Zoom Client, like 5. But still no sound came out. Could you please show me where I can find a specific older version of Zoom? I checked my version is 5. Maybe the version before the autoupdate such as 5.

Thanks a lot. Our engineering team is aware of this and working to provide a fix as soon as possible. Thank you Sg for providing an awesome workaround in the meantime!

I want to reiterate what Bort mentioned, for safety please always use official Zoom client downloads. Here's a link to Zoom 5. That's great to here. In addition to the audio problem, non-HD screen presentation is way out of whack.

Zoomed in and off-center. No problem with HD video. Also popped up with the latest update. Agree on the security concerns. I just couldn't find the official source. I have exactly the same problem. It needs to be repaired ASAP! I have been having the same issue and this worked! Update to close the issue. Today's update to Version: 5.

Audio output is working for me. For anyone having "Failed To Detect Speaker" k indly uninstall your current Zoom App then download the bit version from the zoom. Have you tried updating to the newest version 5. That fixed it for me. Otherwise you can revert to the last version that worked for you.

In my case that was 5. The links are all available above. Dear Sg,My problem is very similar to yours. My speaker is working well in any other Clients while no sound came out in my Zoom Client, no matter in meeting or in the audio testing Thinkpad, windows 10, 64 bit.

Everything is fine if I use the online Zoom in browser. So the problem only exists in Zoom Client. But I tried the as-mentioned solutions in this post, to install the previous versions. Still no sound came out I also tried to reinstall my zoom by using different versions and reinstall my Audio Driver.

Failed all the time This sounds like exactly the same problem I had on my ThinkPad about a year ago. Disconnect any audio device connected to your computer such as a Bluetooth speaker or Bluetooth headsets. If so, disconnect Bluetooth and the Bluetooth audio device from your computer and check whether the audio works again. Sometimes Zoom audio may fail to work because of pending updates on your computer.

Restart your Zoom call by leaving the meeting and re-joining using the same Zoom credentials. If prompted about Microphone access, select Allow to give Zoom authorizations to use your mic.

Sometimes the problem may not be with the Zoom app but with your computer or mobile device. You can start by checking the volume levels on your device or moving closer to your mic. If none of these quick fixes resolve the issue, move to specific troubleshooting steps for your device as listed below.

If you have any Bluetooth speaker or headphones connected to the computer, disconnect the Bluetooth connection and check whether the audio works again. You may have forgotten to update your PC or Mac with the latest software updates that usually contain security patches and bug fixes your device needs to work better. In this case, install any pending updates and then try using the audio on Zoom again.

Most people with audio issues on Zoom tend to miss the Join Audio option that helps them connect the sound.
